Protection & Bundling

Dependent upon the amount of protection that your end product requires, most bundling products offered by JCSI also provide shielding against mechanical abrasion and/or heat for your harnesses and components.

When used in applications where a heat source is involved, expandable braided and woven sleeves can protect against ambient heat as well as direct heat. Additionally, sleeves with high fiberglass content (and with or without a treated coating) can provide protection against flames and sparking.

Expandable Sleeving can also be useful for color coding wire and cable as an aid in field installations.

Problem Solved

Why re-design your entire harness? Especially if the problem is in a determined and isolated area.

Engineers in the field often report damage to wire harnesses and other critical components due to heat sources, repetitive rubbing, mechanical abrasion and the like. Such damage can affect the performance of your final product. JCSI supplies products specifically made to address these issues.

Tapes, wraps, sleeves and even dye-cut adhesive forms can be fit to your harness or applied to the near-by components that create the problem. We will be glad to help you in determining which product best suits your application.

Tie it, Wrap it, Protect it

Cable management products are more often included as a part of your harness or cable assembly. Many times, however, problem areas may be determined after the wire assembly has reached the customer location. Common problems can occur with field installation, mechanical abrasion, threat from nearby heat sources, or bundling and/or tying off loose wiring.

JCSI offers cable and wire management products as a solution to these troublesome areas. Many of our customers have realized that these value added products can reduce costs in field repairs and often save the expense of total product redesigns, especially where sensitive wiring and other electronics are concerned.

Cable ties (also known by some as ty wraps) are a typical solution to dangling and/or mis-managed and longer wires.

Many types, styles and colors of ties are available through JCSI to suit the specific need. Options include: standard, high-temp and screw mounted (all in different lengths and strengths to meet your application requirement). Cable ties are packaged loose piece in packs of 100 for use in small applications where manual tie guns or hand-tying is necessary; or in reels of 5,000 when the use of an automatic tie gun is preferred. Reels are available only in sizes to meet standardized automatic equipment. Accessories, such as self-adhesive mounts, are also available through JCSI.

Heat Shrink Tubing offers another solution for wire bundling and also provides protection against minimal abrasion. Most typically used where the routing of wires through tight areas poses a problem or strictly for aesthetics, heat shrink can also be applied to metal terminals when minimal insulation is needed for whatever reason. JCSI can provide heat shrink tubing to meet various applications specs, including those where heat is a concern. Heat shrink is available in a wide range of sizes and colors, in single wall and dual wall (with adhesive lining). Heat shrink products can be cut to size per your specification or shipped in bulk on spools or 4' sticks.

JCS Convatube Convoluted Tubing and Spiral Wraps provide protection against minimal abrasion as well as offering a solution to your bundling issues. Mainly used in non-heat areas when the wiring harness is previously installed, the tubes (pre-split style) and wraps, which are constructed of polypropylene (?), offer a quick-fix in the field as problems with abrasion are determined.

Expandable Sleeving is a less bulky alternative to convolute and spiral wraps and provides a high degree of protection when abrasion and/or heat is a threat to nearby wiring and cables. Dependent upon the application need, these products can most times (determined by expansion ratio) be applied directly over terminated ends of harnesses eliminating the need for wrapping a product. Where wrapping is the necessary technique required, JCSI offers sleeving featuring a sewn hook-and-loop fastener for easy and fast installation and a secure closure. Sleeving products are available in different constructions and sizes relative to your specs and can range from low-temp monofilaments to super high-temp fiberglass. Most of the sleeving products provided by JCSI meet SAE, UL and MIL specs, some (low-temp products) are available in colors to match or code your harnesses. We will be glad to help you in determining which of these products will be suit your need and your budget.

In areas where extreme temperatures and sparking demand that your product is protected to the max, JCSI offers Sleeving Products with Acrylic and Silicone Coatings. These high-temp protection products are constructed with an inner tube of braided or woven fiberglass, then coated with silicone to protect your product up to 500F degrees. Teflon tapes (including a self-stick version) are also available through JCSI.
